West Avia – a shared platform for business growth and internationalization across South Ostrobothnia

Under the leadership of West Avia, Seinäjoki Airport is being developed into a meeting point for aviation, technology, and new business. The goal is to build an environment that serves the entire region, where companies and RDI (research, development and innovation) actors can develop new solutions, improve accessibility, and open doors to international markets.

The chairpersons of the local associations of South Ostrobothnia Entrepreneurs visited the West Avia showroom at Seinäjoki Airport on Thursday, March 5, as part of the year’s first Chairpersons’ Forum. The visit provided an overview of how the region’s only airport is being further developed to support business growth and internationalization.

A test environment for innovation and growth

Joonas Soini and Elisabet Kivimäki had the opportunity to present the development work carried out at West Avia as well as future plans. The aim is to develop Seinäjoki Airport into a versatile testing and development environment where companies and RDI actors can experiment with and pilot new solutions in areas such as drone logistics, aviation, and smart mobility.

At the same time, airport operations bring tangible competitive advantages to the region. Business aviation and smooth air connections improve accessibility and save time for companies—factors that can be crucial from the perspective of growth and international business.

The Chair of South Ostrobothnia Entrepreneurs, Jussi Eväsoja, highlighted during the event that business aviation can significantly transform companies’ opportunities to operate internationally at its best.

“When you can travel directly from Seinäjoki to the world, it completely changes how time is used and the possibilities for doing business.”

“When you can travel directly from Seinäjoki to the world, it completely changes how time is used and the possibilities for doing business. I have personally flown from Seinäjoki, for example to Tartu, by private plane, and it really demonstrates how much time business aviation can save and how it can enhance companies’ internationalization. Opportunities like these are highly significant for companies in South Ostrobothnia.”

The core idea of West Avia is to bring together companies, research organizations, and developers across the region. When expertise, testing environments, and collaboration come together, new innovations and business opportunities emerge—strengthening the vitality of the entire South Ostrobothnia region.

At its best, West Avia will become a shared development platform for the whole region—a place where new ideas are boldly tested, collaboration is fostered, and the foundations for future business are created.

“West Avia is a shared opportunity for all of South Ostrobothnia – together we can build Seinäjoki Airport into a platform for innovation, growth, and international expansion.”

The development of West Avia is a shared opportunity for the entire region. When companies, entrepreneur organizations, research actors, and development organizations join forces, Seinäjoki Airport can be built into a unique environment for new innovations, growth, and international expansion. Now is the right time to seize this opportunity together.
