Polish Ambassador Visits West Avia

The Ambassador of Poland to Finland, H.E. Tomasz Chłoń, visited West Avia on 20 February to learn about West Avia area developments and explore cooperation opportunities between South Ostrobothnian and Polish companies.

The visit connected Finland’s comprehensive security model with its industrial and technological dimension. After presentations at the Rescue Department and CLT Life, discussions continued at West Avia, where companies demonstrated integrated dual-use solutions, including the Laykka unmanned ground vehicle developed by Esteri Group and equipped with Artificer Group’s patented Pinecone wheels, as well as a mobile command unit built by CLT Life. Trailander also showcased its rescue sled solution, which could be an integral part of a holistic dual-use solution in crises situation.

“What impressed me most today was the practical approach. West Avia demonstrates how resilience is built not only through policy, but through concrete industrial and technological cooperation,” Ambassador Chłoń stated.

Ambassador Chłoń had the opportunity to personally test-drive the Laykka unmanned ground vehicle and experience the Trailander rescue sled in action, gaining first-hand insight into the practical capabilities of the technologies presented.

“Having the opportunity to test the technologies myself gave me a strong understanding of their practical value. These are not theoretical concepts, but operational solutions with real potential. Applied science at its best,” Ambassador Chłoń added.

Strengthening EU Dual-Use Cooperation

West Avia’s controlled airport environment and developing unmanned aviation test area position it as a practical platform for pilot projects, industrial partnerships and cross-border collaboration within the EU framework.

During discussions hosted by Into Seinäjoki, emphasis was placed on combining Poland’s industrial scale and defence-sector expertise with West Avia’s testing and innovation capabilities. Both sides expressed interest in finding areas of collaboration either in the form of attending different drone technology events or finding direct contacts to do matchmaking between companies. It is time to move beyond dialogue toward concrete action and cooperation.

“There is clear potential in combining Polish industrial capacity with Finnish testing environments and regulatory expertise. This kind of regional cooperation can strengthen Europe’s dual-use capabilities.” Ambassador Chłoń continued.

West Avia aims to serve as a gateway for European dual-use cooperation — where testing, industrial capability and international partnership meet in practice..
